Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Local Health Committees.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Ceist:

384 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that local health committees are still holding meetings in many counties in accordance with the Health Act, 1970; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The decision to discontinue local health committees was taken as part of a general review of the administration of the health services.

It was decided to postpone proceedings with the amendment to the Health Act, 1970, necessary to give legal effect to this decision, until after the publication of the report of the Commission on Health Funding. The report, which is now published, makes a series of recommendations about the future administration of the health services. A decision concerning amendments to the Health Act, 1970 will be taken in the context of the proposals to be put to Government following the process of consultation on the report which is currently underway.
