Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Cork Schools Staffing.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Ceist:

404 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the situation which exists in the North Monastery (B) School, Cork (details supplied) whereby a class had to be disbanded due to a shortage of a teacher; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The authorised staffing for this school for the 1989-90 school year is principal, plus seven assistants, plus remedial teacher. The staffing situation at the school has been examined. My Department are satisfied that the school is not in breach of the guidelines on staffing in national schools as determined in accordance with the agreement between the Government and the INTO under the Programme for National Recovery. The appointment of an additional assistant teacher in the school will be sanctioned from September 1990.

Ceist:

405 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education whether a teacher will be available for the next school term for North Presentation Primary School, Cork (details supplied) in view of the increase in numbers and the fact that the school is located in a disadvantaged area.

The staffing and circumstances of this school are being examined by my Department at present. My Department will be in contact with the board of management of the school about the matter.
