Written Answers. - Community Schools Model Lease.

Ceist:

460 Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for Education the number of community schools under the terms of the model lease which have been established; the number of these where the 5 per cent contribution towards the capital costs have been paid by (a) the associated Vocational Education Committees and (b) the associated religious interests; in each case, the amount of money which is outstanding; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The number of community schools which have been established in accordance with the terms of the model lease for community schools is 47.

Deeds of Trust have been signed in respect of 24 of these schools and the agreed local contributions towards the building, equipping and furnishing of the schools payable by the relevant VECs and religious have been paid in full.

The contribution payable by the relevant VEC is 5 per cent of the cost of building, equipping and furnishing a community school. The amount payable by the religious is normally arrived at by agreement. It is not Department practice to disclose details of confidential agreements reached in individual cases with the religious regarding the level of local contribution to be paid.
