Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dublin-Maynooth Rail Line.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

463 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Iarnród Éireann have for some time submitted a railcar replacement programme for the Maynooth-Dublin suburban line and have also submitted proposals for capital to modernise the signalling system on this line; if he will outline his Department's plans to provide such finance in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by CIE that they are proceeding with the construction of new stations at Broombridge, Castleknock (Granard Bridge), Coolmine and Leixlip (Confey) on the Dublin/Maynooth rail line and that the work on improving the signalling on the line has commenced. The board expect these stations will be open for traffic by early summer with the services provided from the board's existing fleet of rolling stock.
