Vol. 394 No. 8
98 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Health the total number of beds in health boards and voluntary hospitals (a) at the end of 1989 and (b) at the end of 1986.
372 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health the name of each hospital which has closed since March 1987; the number of hospital beds for each of the following categories which have closed since March, 1987 and the location of same: (i) acute (ii) geriatric (iii) psychiatric and (iv) other.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 98 and 372 together.
Those hospitals which have changed their role since March 1987 are set out below in Table 1. As the table shows, some hospitals have closed, others have had their services transferred or have been retained to play a different role in the health board, voluntary or private sectors of the health services.
The compiling of the detailed figures on beds requested by the Deputies has involved a specific exercise which will take some time. I will forward the figures requested to the Deputies in the very near future.
