Vol. 395 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Wicklow National Park.

Proinsias De Rossa

Ceist:

73 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Finance, in the context of Ireland's concern for the international environment, the proposals he has to expand the National Park at Glendalough, County Wicklow to cover a wider area of the Wicklow/Dublin mountains; the management functions he will put in place to protect and enhance the National Park area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The study referred to in reply to a parliamentary question on the 25 April 1989 regarding a proposal to establish a national park in the Dublin/Wicklow mountains, is nearing completion. In the meantime agreement has been reached with the Department of Energy and Coillte Teoranta on the extent of the lands acquired for afforestation which will be transferred to the Commissioners of Public Works for incorporation with the nature reserves in Glendalough in a future national park.
