Vol. 395 No. 7

Written Answers. - Pilot Policing Scheme.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

93 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice if he is satisfied that the policing arrangements for rural areas have been satisfactory as a result of the pilot scheme which was introduced and is at present in operation in the Claremorris/Ballinrobe area of County Mayo; whether, as a result of the pilot scheme, Garda resources are deployed to greater advantage; whether this pilot scheme is to be terminated; or whether its operation will be made permanent.

No decision has been taken to terminate the pilot policing scheme referred to. The policing arrangements for rural areas in general and the operation of the scheme are under review with a view to ensuring that all Garda resources are deployed to best advantage. This review is now at an advanced stage and the question of introducing any changes will be considered on its completion.
