Vol. 395 No. 7

Written Answers. - Driving Test Applicant.

Nuala Fennell

Ceist:

98 Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 18 has not been called for a driving test; and the present position concerning the waiting list for driving tests.

An application for a driving test was received from the person in question in July last. The test will be arranged as soon as possible. At present the average waiting period for a test is 37 weeks. The delay in certain areas, including Dublin, is a few weeks longer.

An open competition is at present under way to recruit a significant number of additional driver testers. Interviews are being held and the successful candidates will be trained and operational as soon as possible to enable the delays in testing to be reduced to an acceptable level.
