207 Mr. M. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Justice when he intends bringing before the House the statutory regulations necessary to bring the Video Recordings Act, 1989 into force; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The preparation of the regulations is under way in my Department and while it is my intention that they will be finalised as soon as possible I cannot say at this stage when I will be in a position to lay them before the House.
Apart from the making of the regulations, practical adaptations have to be made to the operation of the Film Censor's Office. Additional staff have to be recruited, and the various administrative and technical systems provided. That work is also in hands.
