Ceist:147 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education if she will re-examine the regulations which prohibit the granting of leave of absence with pay to teachers who are selected to tour with Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.

Applications by teachers for leave of absence with pay are normally considered on their individual merits.
In the case of cultural and musical activities, such as a Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann tour, leave of absence with pay is not normally sanctioned — the normal arrangement is to sanction leave of absence without pay. I have no plans at present to re-examine these arrangements.
