Ceist:

18 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Defence the number of Defence Forces personnel employed exclusively on catering duties; the amount of revenue, if any, accruing to the State from the contracting out of the Defence Forces caterers; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Mr. Lenihan

Six officers fill appointments in the Army School of Catering and as Command catering advisers. Four hundred and thirty six personnel are currently employed as cooks in the Permanent Defence Force. It is not the practice to contract out Defence Forces catering personnel for civilian functions.
