Ceist:21 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Defence the proposals he has for the replacement of hangars at Baldonnel Aerodrome; Dublin 22; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A hangar at Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel was completely reconstructed at the end of 1988.
There are no proposals for the replacement of any of the other hangars at the aerodrome in the current year. These hangars continue to be inspected by Army engineers and maintained as may be necessary.
Is there a specific phased programme to deal with the hangars at Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel? On his next trip through Baldonnel — on Air Corps III — might I suggest the Minister examine the hangars in order to appraise himself of the fact that they do appear to be in need of major refurbishment if not reconstruction?
Certainly, I will. Obviously The Workers Party had a very constructive visit to the aerodrome, which is their parliamentary right. I am glad to have had this matter brought to my notice. I will certainly take it up.
Would the Minister confirm that the reconstruction of one hangar in 1988 was occasioned by the fact that it had been severely damaged structurally by the high winds?
All I know is that it was reconstructed, as the Deputy says, at a cost of £23,000. I do not know why it was but it was at any rate. I will check out the reason for it.
