Vol. 398 No. 4

Written Answers. - Drogheda (Louth) Sewage Treatment.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

118 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the substantial debate in relation to environmental improvement, he will sanction the application from Drogheda Corporation for the provision of a sewage treatment plant; the reason for the delay of four years in giving sanction to the final stage of the interceptor sewer system for Drogheda Corporation; if sanction will be given to these projects; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Drogheda Corporation's feasibility study on the options available for disposing of waste water from the town is being considered by my Department in the context of the objectives of the environment action programme which I announced in January and which provides for the elimination of untreated effluent from major coastal towns including Drogheda. The interceptor sewer proposal will be examined in the light of the final decision on effluent treatment and disposal arrangements. A decision will be made on this matter as soon as possible.
