Vol. 398 No. 4

Written Answers. - Darndale (Dublin) Project.

Patrick McCartan

Ceist:

124 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for the Environment his views on the future of the Darndale Redesign Project; if the entire project will be completed by him; when a decision on phase III will be taken; if he will speed up the rate of progress on the project; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The planning and carrying out of work under the remedial works scheme are matters for the local authority. An allocation of £5 million has been made this year to Dublin Corporation under the scheme for approved refurbishment proposals, including this estate. It is a matter for the local authority to apportion this amount between their approved projects. Their proposals for phase 3 of the Darndale project are being examined and a decision will be notified as soon as possible. The actual level of funding available under the scheme to housing authorities each year is dependent on the provision in the Public Capital Programme and the competing demands for assistance from authorities.
