Vol. 399 No. 8
139 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if she will take the necessary steps to ensure that the time devoted to physical education in colleges of education be increased in the academic year 1990-91.
The number of hours devoted to any one subject in the colleges of education for primary teachers is, in the first instance, a matter for the colleges themselves and the universities which validate their degrees. But, as the Deputy is aware, the recent report of the Primary Curriculum Review Body has made recommendations in this regard. I will examine the recommendations and their implications in detail, in the light of the views and observations of the interested parties, before I make a statement on this matter.
140 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education the number of students that will be admitted into first year physical education for the 1990-91 academic year in Thomond College, Limerick.
The intake level into first year physical education in Thomond College for the 1990-91 academic year is currently under consideration and a decision will be announced in the matter shortly.
