Ceist:74 Mr. T. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education if, consequential on the introduction of the junior certificate, she will double the allocation for the free books scheme; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The junior certificate programme commenced in second level schools in 1989. In that year I increased the free book grant by 20 per cent and in 1990 by a further 23.5 per cent.
