Vol. 399 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dublin Garda Deployment.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

113 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice if he will give details of the number of new gardaí being assigned to Dublin; the number of gardaí being released from clerical duties to take up policing duties; and the number of gardaí of each type being assigned to each Garda station in the Dublin area.

A total of 81 recruit gardaí are being assigned to Dublin, with effect from today, as follows:— Kevin Street station, 11; Pearse Street station, 36; and Store Street station, 34.

As already announced, 250 additional clerical staff are being recruited to release gardaí from office work for outdoor operational duties. 20 clerical assistants have already been recruited from an existing Civil Service Commission panel. The remainder are currently being recruited and appointments are expected to commence being made shortly. It is not possible at this stage to indicate where gardaí released from full-time clerical duties by appointments of clerical staff will be assigned.
