Vol. 401 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ireland-Taiwan Relations.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

76 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if any formal request has been received from the Government of Taiwan to set up diplomatic relations between Ireland and Taiwan.

I am unaware of any request of this nature which in any event could not be entertained because, as I explained to the Dáil on 13 March, Ireland recognises the Government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate Government of China and maintains diplomatic relations with it on that basis.
