101 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Marine if the EC Council of Ministers discussed the issue of drift netting at its meeting of 27 June 1990; the conclusions which were reached; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The question of drift netting was discussed at Council both in the context of the consideration of the report of the high level working party on fisheries on technical conservation measures and in relation to the fishing of salmon in international waters. The Council agreed to support initiatives for the protection of salmon taken at this year's NASCO Conference.
