Vol. 401 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Waterford Derelict Sites.

John Fahey

Ceist:

165 Mr. J. Fahey asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the unsightly premises abandoned by a company (details supplied) in County Waterford, which has been closed for approximately ten years; if any measures are available to him to compel the owners to clear up the site; if the local authority can take action in this matter; and if he will make a statement outlining the action, if any, he will take to remedy the present situation.

The recently enacted Derelict Sites Act, 1990, places a statutory responsibility on all owners and occupiers of land to prevent their land from being derelict and gives local authorities new and more effective powers for dealing with problems of dereliction. It would be a matter for the relevant local authority in the first instance to consider what action may be necessary in relation to the premises referred to in the question.
