Vol. 401 No. 4

Written Answers. - Clonakilty (Cork) Sewerage Scheme.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

27 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the western committee of Cork County Council have given the proposed extension of the Clonakilty sewerage scheme to Gullanes priority rating and that both the engineer and medical-environmental staff of the county council have highlighted the prevailing conditions which will worsen in the context of the present prolonged drought; and whether in all these circumstances approval of the proposal for the extension can now be granted.

P. J. Sheehan

Ceist:

163 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for the Environment when he will issue approval to Cork County Council for the extension of the Clonakilty sewerage scheme to the townland of Gullanes, to cater for 40 dwellings and a factory.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 27 and 163 together. The need to extend the Clonakilty public sewerage scheme to serve the Gullanes area has been noted. Having regard to the competing demands for high priority schemes and the capital available to the sanitary services programme it is not possible to anticipate when the scheme may be approved to go to tender and construction.
