Prior to export all live cattle undergo veterinary and welfare checks by my Department's inspectors in order to determine and certify fitness for travel, adequacy of vehicles or vessels used for the conveyance of the cattle, adequacy of supplies of feed and water for the intended journey, and that the health status of the animals complies with the requirements of the importing country.
During the last two years only two incidents were brought to the attention of my Department. Following investigation I am satisfied that in both cases weather conditions were the cause of the problems that arose.
