The amounts and forms of assistance available to my Department from the European Social Fund have been determined for the period from 1989 to 1993 by the community support framework of the Commission of the European Communities. We are satisfied that we are maximising aid from EC sources.
The aid available for second level programmes has increased significantly with the introduction of the leaving certificate vocational programme, the Youthreach programme for unqualified early school learners and the vocational training opportunities scheme for the long term unemployed.
