Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Installation of Storm Water Pumps.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

250 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received an application from Laois County Council for funding to instal new storm pumps in order to alleviate flooding at Mountmellick, County Laois; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

On 24 April 1990 I approved proposals submitted by Laois County Council, under the water and sewerage small schemes programme, for the installation of storm water pumps at Emmet Terrace, Mountmellick at a cost of £20,000.

Preliminary proposals for major improvements to the Mountmellick Sewerage Scheme were submitted to my Department by Laois County Council and were examined in the light of existing deficiencies in the present system. The council were advised in 1986 to submit revised proposals having regard to further investigations and remedial measures which they were asked to attend to. No revised proposals have yet been received in my Department.
