Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Bank Charges.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

274 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Health the progress, if any, which has been made in relation to the treatment of the health boards by the associated banks concerning bank charges in the same way as local authorities; and if he will make a statement on the up-to-date position in this regard.

As a result of discussions with the associated banks some health boards are now involved in a joint initiative with the banks to introduce new procedures which will minimise the cost of bank charges through more efficient use of the banking system in general, and new technology in particular. My Department is monitoring the outcome of this initiative and all possible steps will be taken to maximise the savings which will arise.
