Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Remedial Teaching Posts.

Tom Enright

Ceist:

309 Mr. Enright asked the Minister for Education if she will give consideration to the appointment of a remedial teacher to be shared between two schools (details supplied) in County Carlow as they have been applying for such a position since 1983; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

317 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education if additional remedial teaching posts will be provided for rural schools in the school year 1990-91; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 309 and 317 together.

The position is that I sanctioned 30 additional remedial teaching posts for primary schools during the last school year. This allocation was a special exception outside the terms of the general public service staffing embargo. The teachers were allocated on the basis of greatest remedial need.

I will be keeping the appointment of further remedial teachers under review.
