Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Tom Enright

Ceist:

313 Mr. Enright asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that a number of pupils from the Ferbane area of County Offaly have been refused transport to special classes in Birr Community School; the number of pupils involved and the reason school transport has been withdrawn; the arrangements her Department are making to have it restored to these pupils who require to attend special classes; when it will be restored; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Transport on the Birr primary school service for six pupils from the Ferbane area attending special classes in Birr Community School could not be provided at the beginning of the current school term as the bus was operating to a capacity load.

My Department have now investigated this matter and I am happy to say that arrangements are presently being made to provide a larger bus on this particular route in order to cater for the six Birr Community School pupils.
