Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Swords (County Dublin) School.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

320 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Education if she will outline her plans for a new post primary school for Coláiste Choilm in Swords, County Dublin, given the age and condition of the present buildings and the lack of facilities for the students.

My Department have had under consideration applications for the provision of new school buildings at Coláiste Choilm and Fingal Community College, Swords.

The question of providing accommodation for both of these schools is being examined by my Department in the context of the overall long term requirements for post-primary places in the area.

No final decision has been taken on the matter to date.
With regard to the state of the present accommodation at Coláiste Choilm I would like to point out that in May 1989 my Department grant-aided a project to re-cover the roof of the school.

Ceist:

321 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Education if she will outline her views on the need for extra accommodation for remedial and special clases at St. Colmcille's boys national school, Swords, County Dublin; given that she sanctioned the provision of a double prefabricated building, if she will confirm that tenders have been received and approved by her Department; and if she will give details of the timescale for the construction of same.

The erection of a double unit pre-fabricated classroom and toilets for remedial and special classes at St. Colmcille's boys' national school is well advanced. The contractor has advised my Department that he expects to have the works completed within two weeks.
