Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Petrol Prices.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

46 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if any representations have been made to him concerning the potential impact on next year's tourism industry of increases in petrol prices; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No specific representations have been made to me on this matter. I am of course keeping a very close eye on recent trends in world oil prices as a result of the Gulf crisis, with particular reference, in the tourism context, to the impact on access costs. There is no way of predicting at this stage what the position will be in 1991. However I expect that this is one of the variables which the wider Irish tourism industry will obviously have to take into account in determing their pricing policy for the coming season, to ensure that the overall cost of the Irish tourism package remains competitive in our main markets.
