Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Membership Application.

Mervyn Taylor

Ceist:

74 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Defence if he will make a statement regarding the application by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 24 to rejoin the Defence Forces; when the application was considered and the material which was taken into account or will be taken into account; whether the applicant can make representations in person; and the appeals procedure which applies.

It is not normal practice to accede to an application from a former officer for re-appointment in the Permanent Defence Force where, as in this particular case, the officer resigned to pursue a career elsewhere. This situation applies throughout the public service. All applications for re-appointment are however, fully considered on their individual merits.

While there is no formal procedure for appealing against an adverse decision, it is of course open to the person concerned to make a submission to the appropriate authorities in the matter.
