Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ordnance Survey Office.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

89 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Finance the progress he is making to regionalise the Ordnance Survey Office; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

92 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Finance when a decision will be made on (1) the regionalisation proposals in the Ordnance Survey Office, (2) the future of the 25 inch series of maps, (3) a reopening of negotiations on restructuring proposals, (4) extra staff being provided to carry out the existing work, (5) the plans to replace those staff who availed of the early retirement and voluntary redundancy schemes, (6) copies of the management's proposals on regionalisation being made available to the union and (7) a regional office of the Ordnance Survey being located in Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 89 and 92 together.

Consideration of the regionalisation proposals and the possible location of regional offices of the Ordnance Survey is nearing completion and I would expect to make an announcement in that regard in the very near future. Management's proposals on regionalisation are confidential and it is not proposed to make them available to the union.

A policy decision in relation to the future of the 25 inch mapping series is still under consideration in my Department.

The staff-related issued raised in the question are appropriate for resolution at departmental council and the official side are available for discussion thereon.
