Vol. 403 No. 2

Written Answers. - Westmeath Water Scheme.

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

24 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the north Westmeath group water scheme; the reason for the delay in approving the scheme, since some householders paid deposits for this supply ten years ago; and if the inclusion of this area in the proposed extension of the disadvantaged areas scheme would increase the grant aid for the scheme.

The group's revised design was approved by my Department and Westmeath County Council in December, 1989. Completed application forms as well as up-to-date tenders are awaited from the group. In the absence of these essential items, my Department are unable to estimate the overall cost of the scheme or to allocate grants to the group. The scheme does not serve a disadvantaged area, to which higher levels of grants would be payable.
