Vol. 403 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Roads Funding.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

75 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider increasing the level of expenditure on county roads in view of the fact that bitumen costs have increased by 30 per cent since June, 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In the period January to July there was a continuous downward trend in the price of bitumen supplied to local authorities under the combined purchasing scheme. Since then, the price has increased by 37 per cent. However, the current price is still 2.5 per cent below the price prevailing last January.

The implications of the trend in bitumen prices are being kept under review.
