Ceist:

96 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for Justice the estimated number of ground rents still in existence.

Michael Joe Cosgrave

Ceist:

97 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for Justice the estimated number who have purchased their ground rents under the buy-out scheme to date.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 95, 96 and 97 together.

The number of dwellinghouse owners who had applied under the low cost ground rents purchase scheme up to 31 October 1990 was 60,241 and in respect of these applications, 55,219 vesting certificates had issued at that date. The number of surviving ground rents on dwellinghouses is not known but a very rough estimate might be in the region of 200,000.
