30 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education when a fifth assistant will be appointed to a school (details supplied) in County Tipperary, based on an increase in enrolments for the academic year 1990-91; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
The staffing of national schools for a particular year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year. This is in accordance with the agreement between the Government and the INTO under the Programme for National Recovery.
Under the current schedule of enrolment figures governing appointment and retention of teachers in national schools, Rosegreen national school, County Tipperary, will be entitled to the sanction of the fifth assistant teacher for the 1991-92 school year, based on a valid enrolment of 179 on 30 September 1990. The appointment will be sanctioned from 1 September 1991 subject to the enrolment of 179 on 30 September 1990 being verified by my Department's inspector.
