Vol. 403 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Medical Examination.

Andrew Boylan

Ceist:

6 Mr. Boylan asked the Taoiseach if medical examinations are taking place in Dublin for enlistment into the Army on 14 January 1991; if a person (details supplied) in County Cavan is being called for this examination; if not, the reason, and if he will be included on future recruitment listings.

There are no medical examinations for enlistment into the Army taking place in Dublin on the date mentioned.

When general service recruitment commences again it is planned to hold another round of interviews and it is proposed that the person concerned will be called for interview at that stage.

I would like to thank the Taoiseach for his assurance on the latter part of the question. I sought this information through different channels and failed, and the young chap in question was very anxious that he would be called for recruitment in the Army, in which he has a keen interest. I thank the Taoiseach for clarifying that matter.

The Deputy is quite happy to leave me in the job, for the moment anyway.

I suggest that maybe there is a reluctance because of what happened the previous two holders. Maybe they wish the Taoiseach would hold it.

Let us proceed with Priority Questions for which 15 minutes only is provided under the Standing Orders of this House. Let us try to dispose of the five questions.
