Vol. 403 No. 9

Written Answers. - Gardaí with Specialised Training.

Nuala Fennell

Ceist:

64 Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for Justice the number of gardaí in service who have had specialised training for dealing with reports of child sexual abuse.

The Garda authorities inform me that a total of 4,325 members of the force have undergone training in dealing with offences against women and children. In addition, 329 women members have attended a special one-week seminar which includes in-depth coverage of the topic of sexual offences against children and 247 trainee gardaí to date have received similar training as part of the new recruit training programme at the Garda College, Templemore.
