Vol. 403 No. 9

Written Answers. - MMDS Service in Sligo.

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

65 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Communications (1) the company granted the franchise for MMDS covering County Sligo; (2) the location of the masts from which it is intended that distribution will be made to cover the various parts of the county; (3) whether planning permission has been received for the erection of these masts or if existing masts are being used and (4) whether planning permission has been received for the use of these for transmission of MMDS signals.

The MMDS franchise holder for County Sligo is Cable Management of Ireland (MMDS) Limited.

The company have identified a site at Brathlee, County Sligo for a primary transmitter from which it is intended to serve most of the county. This is being considered as to its suitability within the national MMDS fequency plan by my Department at present. I have no statutory function in regard to planning permission. This is a matter for the franchise holder and the appropriate authorities.
