Vol. 404 No. 1

Written Answers. - Licensed Liquor Trade.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

115 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will outline his views on tied houses in the licensed liquor trade; if his attention has been drawn to the extent of this method of promoting particular kinds of liquor in Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

While my attention has not been drawn to the extent of the tied houses method of promoting particular kinds of liquor in Ireland, it is my impression that this type of promotional activity does not exist in the licensed liquor trade to any extent which might give rise to concern in relation to competiton. The Deputy will already be aware that the Restrictive Trade Practices (Intoxicating Liquor and Nonalcoholic Beverages) Order 1965, prohibits certain anti-competitive practices in the trade.
