Vol. 404 No. 1

Written Answers. - Drunken Driving Law.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

151 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for the Environment if it is his intention to alter the law in relation to drunken drivers whereby in the event of an accident suspects can be tested in the confines of a hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

At the Road Safety Seminar on 27 September last, I asked for views on the desirability of enabling blood or urine samples to be taken in a hospital by a doctor or with a doctor's consent, following a road accident. I will make a decision on an amendment to the law when I have fully considered the implications of the proposed change and any views received thereon.
