152 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for the Environment the total amount of money spent by local authorities during 1990 to date, from their own resources, on the provision and improvement of local authority housing and for serviced sites for travelling people; and the estimated amount from their own resources which will be spent by 31 December 1990.

155 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for the Environment the total number of local authority dwellings whose construction was completed to date in 1990 by each local authority; and the number it is estimated which will be completed by 31 December 1990.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 152 and 155 together.

For 1990, the capital allocation for the local authority housing programme, including the provision of serviced sites, was £51 million, including a sum of £45 million from local authorities own capital resources. The latest information available indicates that these sums will be fully utilised in 1990 and that house completions for the year will number about 1,000.

Detailed information on the position in each area is collected from local authorities periodically throughout the year rather than on a day-to-day basis. Such information relating to the year as a whole will be compiled as early as possible in 1991.

153 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for the Environment the number of applicants currently on each local authority housing waiting list.

I would refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 29, 70 and 73 of 28 February 1990 which gave details of the latest assessment of housing needs carried out by housing authorities under section 9 of the Housing Act, 1988.

154 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for the Environment the number of local authority housing schemes currently awaiting approval by his Department; the date when such approval was first sought; the local authority area to which each scheme relates; and the number of houses proposed to be built in each such scheme.
