Vol. 404 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sligo-Leitrim Road Works.

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

181 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for the Environment when it is intended to start work on (1) Sligo town inner relief road (2) the Ballisodare and Collooney by-pass on the Sligo-Dublin road (3) the Curlews by-pass and (4) the Jamestown by-pass; and if he will make a statement outlining the schedule for each stage of these projects.

I presume that the Sligo town inner relief road mentioned in the question is the proposed new road from Carraroe to the new Michael Hughes Bridge. Neither this scheme nor the Curlews by-pass is scheduled, in the recently published Operational Programme on Peripherality, to commence in the period to the end of 1993 and time-scales for their development have not yet been prepared.

The Collooney-Sligo scheme and the Drumsna-Jamestown scheme are scheduled, in the operational programme, to commence in 1992. The local authority's outline proposals were approved in July 1987 and December 1988 respectively. I understand that Sligo County Council are at present finalising the determination of a line for the Collooney-Sligo scheme with a view to the preparation of a compulsory purchase order (CPO) for the necessary property and that Leitrim County Council are now preparing a CPO for the Drumsna-Jamestown scheme. Subject to the outcome of these CPOs, it will be a matter for the local authorities to finalise the detailed design and contract documents for the schemes so as to facilitate their commencement in 1992.
