Vol. 404 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cork Ear, Nose and Throat Treatment Delay.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Ceist:

203 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement regarding the delay in ear, nose and throat operations in the Cork area; and if he has any plans to improve the situation.

The South Infirmary-Victoria Hospital is the regional centre for ear, nose and throat services in the Southern Health Board area. Ear, nose and throat activity at the hospital has greatly increased this year. In 1989 a total of 1,267 ear, nose and throat operations were carried out at the hospital. Up to the end of November this year a total of 1,665 ear, nose and throat operations were performed. This represents a substantial increase in ear, nose and throat activity at the hospital with a consequent reduction in the waiting time involved for patients.
