Written Answers. - Dublin Airport Runways.

Ceist:

365 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he will outline the number of runways in operation at Dublin Airport over the past year; and in respect of each of these if he will outline (a) the number of flights which used each runway from 1 January 1990 to 30 September 1990 between the hours of (i) 07.30-22.00 and (ii) 22.00-07.30, (b) the number of flights which used each runway from 1 January 1989 to 30 September 1989 between the hours of (i) 07.30-22.00 and (ii) 22.00-07.30, (c) the number of flights in each of the 16 categories in Aer Rianta's report (details supplied) which was used for their NNI survey and the percentage change from 1989 and (d) when it is intended to close runway 05/23.

Four runways were in operation at Dublin Airport over the past year. The number of flights which used each runway during the dates and times at (a) and (b) of the question are as follows:

The number of flights in each of the 16 categories used in the Aer Rianta report to establish the NNI contour is as follows:

The percentage change was 31 per cent over 1987. As can be seen categories 15 and 16 relate to turbo-prop aircraft which are not noise significant and were not included in the survey. Runway 05/23 was officially withdrawn from service on 13 December 1990.
