Vol. 404 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - 1992 Awareness Campaign.

John Bruton

Ceist:

5 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Taoiseach the total cost of the Government's 1992 Awareness Campaign; and the results, if any.

The costs incurred by my Department over the three years 1988-90 to date amount to £640,000. The campaign, in which other Departments and semi-State bodies participated, has been recognised as having been very successful in increasing awareness in Irish industry and business on the advent of the Single Market at the end of 1992 and in stimulating appropriate preparatory action.

Has the Taoiseach considered commissioning any research to indicate whether there was a significant practical increase in awareness as a result of this campaign, not with a view to criticising anybody involved but with a view to discovering the best methodology for mounting a campaign of this kind and learning from the experience?

We published reports on the implications for ten key sectors which were very useful. I will take note of the Deputy's suggestion that we use our experience in this regard for future reference.
