Vol. 404 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - FCÁ Grant-in-Aid.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

15 Mr. Bell asked the Taoiseach if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the grant-in-aid being paid to FCÁ units is totally inadequate to operate as per regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The amounts of grants paid to FCÁ unit funds are normally £1,565 per annum for large units such as an Infantry Company, and £625 per annum for certain sub-units. However, reduced amounts of grants may be paid to units which are significantly under-strength.

I am satisfied that the amounts paid are adequate to allow the units and sub-units to operate in the manner prescribed by Defence Force regulations. There is no question of any unit being put in a position of not being able to meet essential expenses.
