Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Exhibition of Works of Art.

Patrick McCartan

Ceist:

8 Mr. McCartan asked the Taoiseach whether the works of art by the Hiberno-Hungarian painter Ferenc Martyn, recently presented to the Irish State by the artist's widow, will be publicly displayed during 1991.

The works of art in question will be exhibited at the Dolan Moore Gallery, Athlone, County Westmeath, from 28 May to 4 June, 1991 in association with the Hungarian Consulate and at the Irish Museum of Modern Art at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham from October, 1991 to January, 1992. The drawings were already on display at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham in June, 1988.

I thank the Taoiseach for the information and I welcome the fact that this very important Hiberno-Hungarian artist will be honoured during the year. Is the Taoiseach aware that there is to be an exhibition of Hungarian heritage in the Gallagher RHA museum? Would the Taoiseach be disposed to facilitating any of the works from this collection being shown at that exhibition?

I will put that suggestion to the authorities concerned.
