Vol. 405 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Corporation Housing Programme.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

144 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that Dublin Corporation is currently unwilling to consider applicants who are homeless as defined by the Housing Act, 1988 for the housing list and the homeless list if applicants have not been resident in the local authority area for the previous two year period, which is contrary to the Housing Act, 1988.

Ceist:

145 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Environment when he plans to approve the new scheme of letting priorities for housing for Dublin Corporation under the Housing Act, 1988; and his views on whether it is a priority for the effective implementation of the Housing Act, 1988.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 144 and 145 together.

I was not aware of the situation in relation to the accommodation of homeless persons to which the Deputy has referred and I am now pursuing the matter with Dublin Corporation.

Each housing authority is obliged under the Housing Act, 1988 to adopt a new scheme of letting priorities. The scheme submitted by the corporation is at present, the subject of correspondence between my Department and the corporation.
