Vol. 405 No. 6

Written Answers. - Landfill Proposals.

Roger T. Garland

Ceist:

53 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Marine if he will outline his views on (1) the proposed landfill proposals in Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin and (2) the rezoning of the foreshore which would facilitate such a landfill; if his attention has been drawn to the considerable number of objections from residents of the area; and when he will agree to meet with representatives of the Seapoint and Salthill Association, in relation to this matter.

Consideration of this matter concerns my Department in so far as land reclamation requires a lease under the Foreshore Act, 1933. To date there is no application under consideration for such a lease at Dún Laoghaire. The matter of rezoning refers, I understand, to the proposal by Dún Laoghaire Corporation included in the draft borough development plan and as such is a matter for that authority.

I am aware of the views of the Salthill and Seapoint Association following receipt of a submission from the association on the matter. A meeting at this stage would be somewhat premature and serve no useful purpose until an application for a lease is lodged.
