Vol. 406 No. 3

Written Answers. - Fuel Prices.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

173 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give the breakdown of the retail price of (1) petroleum (2) diesel and (3) heating oil between (a) VAT, (b) excise duty, (c) retailers margin, (d) wholesalers margin, (e) price to refiners and producers and (f) other elements in the price.

Set out below is the breakdown requested in respect of the current maximum retail price per litre for premium petrol and road diesel which are subject to price control and in respect of which I consequently have official data: statutory price control does not apply to heating oil.

Premium Petrol

Road Diesel

(a) VAT

10.42p

9.68p

(b) Excise duty

30.35p

22.31p

(c) Retail margin

3.53p

3.52p

(d) Wholesale margin

4.61p

6.57p

(e) Composite product price

11.15p

13.70p

The composite product price at (e) above reflects the average of the relevant product prices reported by Platts in the previous month plus freight for imported product and the prices for ex-Whitegate product including freight.
